Make sure the USB dongle cable plugged into the front of the computer.
If it is plugged in, take it out and re-plug it.
I'm a newbie myself, but hopefully that's all it is!

Is the laser definitely on (your card in the reader, display on the laser active) before you open LaserCut?
Not 100% sure it's the same message but it usually complains about the dongle if the laser is powered off.

dont panic. the laser isnt broken...
please stop saying the laser is broke when its not...
its a quirk of the machines. happens from time to time.
check the usb cable and turn the machines offandon .
its old software and its buggy . patience is required.

you do need the laser to be on before you transfer files. Also transfer dosent tend to work while the laser is cutting.

This has all been resolved. It turns out the laser USB cable was not plugged in to the main PC, as someone had used their own computer to run the laser.
If anyone here doesn't already realise - while its fine to use your own computer to control the laser cutter, please leave the laser USB cable plugged in to the main laser PC when you leave it.
