I've used one of these without problems in my sewing class. But I've had ongoing trouble with this the Hackspace machine. Last year the needle snapped and broke a part on the machine which Im happy to say David Clarke fixed. Big thanks to you David.  Alex and I tried to get it working again last night but the bobbin case had disappeared. The bobbin cases from the Toyota machine do fit the IKEA machine. This morning I went to Coles and bought a new bobbin case this morning (and also got a pack of the correct size 90/14 needles). The machine is sewing again but the quality is variable. It chomps up the top thread and tangles it in with the bobbin during the sewing process. I tried changing the thread quality and the tension which helped only slightly, but its still hit and miss. I don't know what to do to improve the quality, the mechanism seems stiff when I turn it by hand. Is there anyone with a bit more experience with machines who could have a look. It's a £45 machine so Im wondering if we are just getting what we paid for.

My daughter's Ikea machine gets fair use (and abuse) and still works
fine after a year. I could bring it in and have a comparative look at
working and non-working to try and find out the cause of the problem.

We've had issues with the sewing machines/lack of/breaking of in the space for a while.

A few attempts have been made to get a handle on it (ie, get rid of what doesn't work and pledge for something new) but we've never quite got off the ground.

With the IKEA machine having issues, maybe now would be a good time to seriously look at pledging towards 2-4 new machines for the space.

I'm going to post a new thread now about this, if that's alright.

i've had a little experience with repairing sewing machines, although it can be very tedious, sometimes it can be done (usually worn parts around the bobbin, occasionally broken gears, or simply a loose screw!). do they ever get oiled? if the space is just going to buy a few more, the old ones could be stripped for parts (some very good steel in them!),,,
