So, what is Not Sorry?
The short answer to your question is yes to both. Notsorry is a virtual
forum ("tavern" -- like the good ol' days) for discussion, and
hopefully one day in the not so distant future there will be articles
and such on a corresponding web site (http://notsorry.net). So, the
latter (the articles and suff) will be reserved for a dream I'm cooking
up for a web site (http://notsorry.net). The former (discussion) aspect
of things will be facilitated by this Google Group.
It seems to me that most people who want to start a web sites that
include a discussion component, they normally build the site and start
producing content first before starting conversations about the
content. Obviously, this is the logical order. But, I am making a go at
doing it the other way around: (a) As I meet people (in person, and
over the web) who are sincerely interested in honest dialog about
Christianity's implications for all of life, I hope to invite them to
join in the conversation (via the Not Sorry Google Group). (b) And
(hint hint, Evan listen up) as I meet brothers and sisters in the faith
who have gifts and a burden to write
apologetics-philosophy-theology-related articles and such, I want to
invite them to join as contributing writers (for the web site) and
conversation guides (for the Google Group). Maybe I'll call it "organic
web site development."
Anyway, maybe that's clear as mud. O, before I go I should say
something briefly about the meaning of the name, "Not Sorry."
If there is one thing that the web has produced it is a culture of
double entendre naming madness. (Just look at the names of people's
blogs....) Anyhow, for deep theological reasons I believe firmly in the
power of names. Accordingly, when I went to buy the domain name for my
dream apologetics web site, had two criteria in mind: (a) intentional,
powerful meaning and (b) pithy ease of recall while speaking and
typing.
I got the idea of "not sorry" from the introduction of the apologetics
books I had read. They each seem to mention somewhere in the
introduction that "apologetics" does not mean to say that you are
sorry. Rather, it is from a Greek word that means to give a defense....
So, one of the meanings in the name is that Christians are never sorry
for their own faith, though they do defend it: "unapologetic
apologetics," if you will.
Another of the meanings is from Romans 1:16-17, that we Christians are
not ashamed ("sorry") for the Gospel. Rather, the Gospel is our glory
and power.
Yet another (and I'd better stop at three -- Is "triple entendre" a
word?) of the meanings intended is directed toward Christians. In my
opinion (no harm intended) there are many sorry (i.e. shallow,
ignorant, uninformed) Christians within Christindom (especially in
America). Thus, I hope that Christians who read the content on the
future web site and who participate in the dialogues will grow deep
roots in the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.
In summary, will this idea succede? If God smiles on it, it can't fail.
And I pray toward that end. There seem to be so many people (both
Christians and non-Christians) who are in desperate need of real,
honest dialog over the suff that really matters. May God lead us all
into the power of the Gospel (Romans 1:16-17) to become "Not Sorry"
Christians.
