Hello Noto Fonts team,

I am writing to propose the formal integration of "Chocolate Classical Sans" and "Cactus Classical Serif" into the Noto family as Noto Sans CC and Noto Serif CC (Classical Chinese).

In addition to their aesthetic value, these fonts offer critical functional advantages that align with the "No Tofu" mission:

1. Support for Rare and Classical Glyphs:
Many characters used in classical literature and historical documents are missing from standard CJK fonts.
Chocolate Classical Sans and Cactus Classical Serif have been developed with a focus on these extended character sets.
Integrating them would significantly reduce the "Tofu" (missing glyphs) encountered when rendering classical Chinese texts.

2. Historical and Orthographic Accuracy:
These fonts strictly adhere to the standard typeface styles (e.g., MOE standards) and provide correct stroke shapes for
historical research that the standard Noto Sans CJK (which often prioritizes modern digital conventions) might not fully address.

3. Proposed Renaming & Brand Unity:
  • Chocolate Classical SansNoto Sans CC
  • Cactus Classical SerifNoto Serif CC
By bringing these under the Noto brand, Google can provide a complete typographic solution for both modern and classical Chinese,
ensuring a seamless experience for scholars, researchers, and designers worldwide.

4. Open Source Compatibility:
Since these fonts are already under the SIL Open Font License (OFL) and hosted on Google Fonts,
the technical and legal barriers for integration should be minimal.

I believe this expansion would be a major milestone for the Noto project in its quest to support the entirety of human written language.

Best regards, MinSu-Kim
