Hello,
I have been searching for a font with a really comprehensive character set for multi-language support and I think Noto might be it but wanted to confirm / ask a few things.
I'm working on a game which requires EFIGS, cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, South Korean character support along with a few other languages too.
Basically I was hoping to use two Noto fonts:
Primary -
Noto Serif Semi Condensed BoldSecondary -
Noto Sans Semi Condensed Regular
Info / Our Issue:
- We require large multilingual character support and we hoped that these 2 fonts had enough characters so we wouldn't have any 'fallback font' issues across EFIGS, Cyrillic based languages, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. We really want to avoid any 'special' / fallback characters appearing within a single text field... eg
Our current Primary font:
Roboto Slab
... when certain language characters are not available in that font, displays Noto Sans CJK' instead.
This effectively embeds Sans characters into a Serif(slab) line of text which looks terrible.
So, if we could use
Noto Serif Semi Condensed Bold as our Primary font and it included all characters and never needed a Fallback font at all, then this would be perfect.
And similarly, we'd use Noto Sans Semi Condensed Regular as our Secondary font and again, due to its comprehensive character set, it would never have the ugly, obvious embedded different font problem described above.
Question:
- We currently were planning to use this font - 'NotoSansCJK-Regular'... which is advised online that it covers most of our requirements but we would like to know if the two styles/weights of Noto that we mention above have a similar very large character set that we can use instead?
Any help or info would be very much appreciated.
If you need any more info please let me know.
