I am a ui designer in Lenovo MOTOROLA. My name is Will Wei Liu.
I have some questions about the standard of noto in simplified Chinese and would like to consult your team.
Noto font is known to be a cool font, it is comprehensive, balanced, stable, and perfect for use as a pre-made font for mobile phones.
Our design team likes it very much and uses it often. We are especially grateful for your efforts to make it convenient for us.
As a mobile phone company, we hope to continue to use noto Chinese as the factory default font for mobile phones, but we are very worried recently, because the Chinese character standard GB18030-2022, which was launched last year, had been officially implemented on August 1 this year, compared with the release in 2000 and the revision in 2005. The standard contains a total of 87,887 Chinese characters, more than 17,000 rare Chinese characters than the previous version. We are particularly worried about whether the current noto sc supports these new points. In addition, because this standard is a national mandatory standard, it is a relatively strict regulation for us. We have to use a font that meets this requirement as our phones’ default Chinese font, but we hope that we can continue to use this font for a long time very much, so as to bring users continuous excellent experience. We really appreciate that if your team could help confirm whether noto sans sc supports this standard at present or not. By the way, would your team consider completing support for the specification by 8/1, 2024? As this policy gives a 1-year buffer time!
