Hi all …

We are about to design a website for a Chinese client > for the Chinese market.
There is a lot of chatter about google (and all others) are being slowed by the Chinese Government.
Since we like Noto Sans CJK SC a lot … what are the known issues to use Noto on the website – within China

Thank you
Danny

Hi

Good question :) I'm the program manager for Google Fonts.

As far as I know, our api services do work inside mainland China, but our fonts.google.com directory website does not, because the API services use domains like gstatic.com

Please let me know if you get stuck :)

Hello Dave – and thank you for your reply. Cool.

The Google CDN does not include Mainland China (https://cloud.google.com/cdn/docs/locations)
And as far as I have researched there isn't a solid solution at the moment that would prevent known issues with Noto Sans CJK SC (or any other Google Font in this case) in Mainland China – at the moment. So, I think we would need a Chinese Foundry that provides an appropriate Chinese Webfont – to prevent any mishaps on their site …

Or do you happen to know more in the meantime ??
I'm curious (:

Many thanks,
Danny

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that is a different CDN to the CDN that Google Fonts API uses. That's one offered to the public as a service. Google Fonts API is made with internal Google services only available to developers employed by Google.

I've seen a lot of blog posts and stack overflow questions about this over the years, but as far as I know, the fonts do work when loaded from the Google Fonts API. If you can provide a traceroute log or similar showing they don't work, that would be ace :)
