Notify.io is now piping notifications into Realtime, a service that will provide scalable, reliable messaging.

You can start using this new reliable stream by changing the listen URLs in ~/.Nio from

to

So basically, change the api subdomain to listen. This will get you listening on the new messaging server.

With the new server, you will get ghost notifications with the previous client every couple minutes because of keep-alives. If you want to stop getting these, you can upgrade to the new client: http://notify-io.googlecode.com/files/DesktopNotifier.dmg

There is still a chance of outages with this server since the old server is currently relaying messages to it. Until we get users to upgrade to the new client that supports redirects, we can't phase out the old server.

So this is a step in the direction of reliability, not a solution.

Next step is to change links on the website to get new users using the new client and messaging server.

Then we'll start sending reminders to users of the old client to upgrade, and redirecting users of the new client to the new server.
