Hi Dan,

Since nts doesn't explicitly associate date and time with notes, I
believe it's not possible to sort notes by date, or search within a date
interval. If so, could I make this a feature request? The date could
just be a tag, i guess, but it could also be special syntax in the title
line.

Best wishes,
Alex

Alex,

There was a suggestion to associate dates with notes a while back. This got me thinking, if dates then why not tags, keywords and so forth. This in turn was part of the motivation for the recent big revision in etm. Since notes in etm can now span multiple lines and preserve leading white space and since they support dates and all the rest, I think etm is the answer if you want associated dates. The tradeoff is that the etm format is a little more complicate with the @ fields but then something like that would be necessary to add dates to nts.

Hi Dan,

Ah, i understand. Sorry, i must have missed the previous discussion of this. So, nts has pretty much become a subset of etm. Will development of nts then be discontinued? Also, is there a script that can turn nts notes into etm notes? No worries if not, i think i should be able to easily write one myself.

Best wishes,
Alex

Alex,

There wasn't any real discussion, just a suggestion about adding dates that got me thinking. Relative to etm, nts still has the advantage of a simpler format, the abilty to encode files for minimal privacy and, for me most importantly, the built in heirarchy based on the directory structure. I'm not giving up on it yet.

Alex,

I've fixed a bug in the tag filter and changed slightly and documented the use of date and timestamps. The last paragraph speaks to your idea of using tags to associate dates with notes:

Date and time stamps:
If you enter '.d' anywhere in note that you are creating or editing in the
GUI, it will be expanded to the current date in YYYY-MM-DD format when you
save the note. Similarly, ".dt" will be expanded to the current date and
    time.

You can associate dates (or datetimes) with your notes by entering ".d"
(or ".dt") as one of the tags for the note. You can then see your "dated"
notes grouped by date by using "-o t -t \d{4}-\d{2}-\d{2}" in either the
    CLI or the GUI.

This release, 80, will be available later today.

Hi Dan,

Thanks, that was exactly what I was thinking of. It's great that it works both in the gui and client!

Best wishes,
Alex
