I have some more suggestions:

1. An option to include the file path of a note would be great.

2. It seems like the indexes is started at [1] for the most recent note.
Should it be the other way around so the oldest note has the first
index? This is more intuitive for me, and makes it easier to remember
which note was which just by number.

3. The option to create a rc file in another directory is great, but nts
errors out on standard file it seems. Can nts be configured to include
txt files without title and tags? It would also be great if all files of
filetype text/plain could be included when scanned, so that otl files
and others are included as well.

Using 4, 5, 6, or 7 with -d shows the file path.

Notes appear in alphabetical order by file path and then note title.
It would be difficult to order by date-time since all notes within the
same file would have the same date-time.

I don't understand what you mean when you say that nts 'errors out on
the standard file'.

nts cannot be configured to use txt files without title lines. (tags
are optional) I don't think I quite understand what you have in mind.
How could a program process a file in an arbitrary format and somehow
recognize individual notes?

Sorry, but I have no interest in extending nts in a way that would
enable it to process files in a variety of formats. My goal in
creating nts was, in fact, to develop a very simple, but flexible file
format and then to provide convenient gui and cli interfaces for
dealing with files in that format. For my own purposes, I also like
the ability to limit the files being process to those with particular
extensions since I like to intersperse note files in directory
structures with other files.

Thanks, I did not know of all the extra options to -d. Will check them
out.

This is the help display for d:

-d DISPLAY An integer from [1, ..., 7] which is the sum of one or
more of the following:
1: note title
2: note body
4: note id and tags
Default: 1.

This means that -d 3 would give (1+2 = 3) title plus body, -d 6 would
give (2+4 = 6) body plus note id and tags and so forth.
