Hi,

I am seeing very high CPU when using the NTS gui. So high that my typing is delayed very noticeably and while typing n.pyw will max my CPU at 100% making it barely usable.

nts-82
python 2.6.6
wxpython 2.8.11.0
docutils 0.7

On a Core 2 machine, 64-bit system

Have you tried running the cli using n.py? It might give a better clue about the underlying problem.

What happens when you restart n.pyw?

What's your operating system?

Hi Dan!

Yes, the CLI runs fine. When I restart n.pyw it doesn't help. The
issue repeats, predictably, instantly, from the moment n.pyw opens.

I'm running Gentoo Linux.

Is this a new problem, i.e., have you ever been able to run n.pyw without experiencing the high cpu usage?

When you start n.pyw, does the display open and appear normal? If you press F1, does the help display open? Is the displayed system information what you would expect? Can you create a new note?

Does running 'n.py w' instead of 'n.pyw' make any difference?

Does running 'arch -i386 n.pyw' make any difference?

Approximately how many *.txt files do you have in your ntsdata directory? Any symbolic links?

When you run the cli (using n.py) how many notes are listed? Are any missing?

I'm a (prospective) new user, so this has occurred since I installed
it the same day I posted.

Yes, it appears normal, Help opens quickly and appears correct, and I
can create new notes.

platform linux2; python 2.6.6; wx(Python) 2.8.11
docutils 0.7; markdown 2.0.3; pandoc none

> Does running 'n.py w' instead of 'n.pyw' make any difference?

It behaves the same way

> Does running 'arch -i386 n.pyw' make any difference?

That command doesn't run for me - I think that only works on Mac...
Perhaps there is a way to do it on Linux but I am not familiar with it

Just the two small test ones I created and no symlinks

Two notes (three "sections"), same as GUI, nothing missing

I also ran a python cProfile of n.pyw running for about a minute. I
typed a few hundred characters during that time into a note, then
closed the app.

Interpreting the profile, is a bit beyond me, but I thought it might
help you.

Also, I tried wxpython 2.8.12.1 just to see if that would help, and it
doesn't.

I can't add much but I am using nts more often and notice that when
first starting (n.pyw &) it seems to take a long time for the initial
load (this morning I timed it at 12 seconds). However, I haven't
noticed any slowness when using it. My initial problems with nts were
font problems. Perhaps mvf's problems are related to font rendering.
