Hi, Robert,
I installed Ubuntu 9.10 x86 on a Virtual Box virtual machine last
night and experienced the same problem. I did some further tests and
have sent Miro a detailed report.
The work-around is to bypass the Install File feature:
1. Close NoteCase Pro
2. Manually copy the notecase.key file to /home/username/.notecase
(notice the leading period in the .notecase directory). (Substitute
your user account name for "username".)
3. Relaunch Notecase Pro.
4. Should be joy.
You may need to set your file manager to display hidden files in order
to see the /.notecase directory.

An alternative to wrestling with the Dolphin file manager's settings
is to temporarily install the Krusader file manager. Its installer
sets the app to show hidden files and folders by default.
However, if I recall correctly, there is an option on the Dolphin View
menu to show hidden files.
Best regards,
Paul
It's sounding so far like some sort of clash between the 8.04 i386
build of NC Pro and i386 Ubuntu 9.10. FWIW, I experienced no similar
issue with 32-bit Kubuntu 8.04, Kubuntu 9.04, and Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit.
Best regards,
Paul
