I just upgraded to MacOS Sonoma, and Notecase wouldn't load, so I updated it to 4.8.1. Now it loads, but it won't open my .ncz file. It will open .ncdb files. Is there a way to convert my .ncz file to .ncdb?

Not that I know of. If you don't have anything confidential in the file and you send it to me, I could  hopefully do the conversion on the Windows platform (assuming the file isn't corrupt). My email address is mar...@gmail.com

Also please see if there are any clues in app log why the open process failed.
Activate "Help > Send Activity Log" menu, then press "View" button to see the log.

Regards,
  Miro

One other thing you can try is to use  --dump command line parameter, it's described in help file at:
User Interface > Command Line Arguments > NoteCase Pro Command Line Arguments > –dump Command Line Switch
