I'm thinking about launching a Notcurses chat room that people
can come to with questions or whatnot. I would prefer to have a
single place. What would people recommend? Options I'm
considering (I'm happy to look beyond this list) would be:
- Matrix
- Discord
- IRC
but I'm old and out of touch with the kids, so maybe there are
better options than this? I have no interest in using Slack.
Also, contradicting earlier claims, there will be a 2.3.0 before
3.0.0, probably this month. My goal is to have bitmaps working
perfectly in 2.3.0, including:
- text below bitmaps
- text above bitmaps
- bitmaps moving
- bitmaps atop bitmaps
- maybe resizing, unsure
Most of this stuff mainly works now, and just needs perfecting.
2.3.0 is loosely defined as "everything I need to implement
raptitude" (a package manager with screenshots).
3.0.0 will include bitmap-based plots, which will ideally
replace the current FPS plot in the demo. I've broken all issues
into either 2.3.0, 3.0.0, or no milestone.
After that, I intend to take a long hard look at performance
improvements via SIMD or perhaps even GPU offload. I kinda doubt
we can get wins from discrete GPUs, due to the cost of moving
data on the PCIe bus, but I bet we could use on-die GPUs to some
good effect.
My head is full of plans for a 3.0.0 hype video that will rock
the balls and assholes of this great nation; you can see the
idle details at
https://github.com/dankamongmen/notcurses/issues/1425. Upon
seeing the Notcurses II video, joseluis lamented that it was
just more of the same notcurses-demo; I'm happy to put more
stuff in there (I intend to show off raptitude, for one), but
that requires stuff to put =]. So if you've been working on
something k-rad, point me at it, and you could find yourself in
the video!
Finally, I'd like to put a picture of each team member in there
(though I of course won't if you'd rather I not), so find a
picture of yourselves that you like, and send it to me. I'm
thinking something like 0:39 in this video:

If your name is Marek, José, or the mysterious igo95862, I
consider you core team =].
much love from the land of automatic weapons and bacon!
