I don't know why this wasn't forwarded to notabusroute, but here it is.

This sounds a bit more promising.  I think they're catching wind of our
frustration, especially concerning recent developments (bus driver road rage,
damage to our street).

Neighbor Doug takes a brighter view of the sinkhole.  He says if the buses
hadn't caved it in prematurely, it could have grown much larger before caving,
like the one that swallowed a large water utility truck last year.

Thank you for your note.  I have forwarded your concerns about sewer issues to Tim Hall at the Water Bureau so that he can follow-up on them.  As I mentioned in my earlier note, due to the sink hole Line 71 buses have been re-routed off of 52nd between Lincoln and Hawthorne indefinitely.

 

Tonight's meeting to review Line 71 re-route options is being held at here at TriMet's Center Street offices.  This location was chosen by neighborhood representatives.  Residents in your area will be represented by several members of the neighborhood task force, including people who live on 52nd and 55th streets, as well as several people living along SE Taylor.  

 

At tonight's meeting we will review the findings from our bus test conducted last Monday.  Later this week, TriMet staff and neighborhood representatives will go door-to-door in your area notifying residents of the available options, and inviting them to an open house (at a time and location next week to be determined) where all options can be reviewed by the public.  I encourage you to attend this open house so you can review the options yourself and provide us with your feedback.  We will also make information available at trimet.org and notify our riders by distributing onboard rider alerts.

 

Following this open house, TriMet will decide, in cooperation with the neighborhood and our partners at PDOT, the best alternative route.  We will then re-canvass your area to notify residents of whatever changes, if any, can and will be implemented.  Once the neighborhood has been notified, we will move quickly to implement the recommended changes.

The sinkhole should be an additional reminder of why this route is wrong for this street.  You should all know that there are other "sewer breaks" under SE 52nd Avenue.  I know this because my next door neighbor (I live at the other end of SE 52nd from this sinkhole) had one of those videos done of the sewer line in front of this house and saw multiple breaks.  He brought this to the City's Attention;  no work has been done on the sewer line that runs under SE 52nd Ave following that test.
