to Not a Bus Route
Greetings, Neighbors,

Within the past few months, Tri-met did a mialing requesting comments
about changes to the #71 route. It seems that the westbound #71 will
remain on Lincoln and the eastbound will be moved to Division--that is/
was the proposal.

I sent my comments to Tri-met, PDOT and BTA expressing that the entire
route should be moved off Lincoln 52nd to 60th and 52nd to Division.
In order for this change to occur, it's my understanding that the stop
line at 60th and Division needs to be moved west about 15-30 feet,
which is a PDOT issue.

In the interest of safety, clarity, and convenience, moving the entire
route makes sense. It is closer to the schools, the route has pick-up
and drop off on the same street, Lincoln is an official bikeway, and
Lincoln is also in the heart of a residential area.

Please send your comments to Tri-met if you have not already done so
and cc PDOT and BTA. BTA is very supportive and attentive to the
situation.

Collectively, we can advocate for the residents of our great
neighborhood while supporting bike commuters, bus riders and
pedestrians.

Thanks & Peace,

Thanks Sharon for you thoughtful post. There are many residents along
Lincoln that still want Trimet and PDOT to address the safety concerns
we have raised. I had been very involved for a period of time,
specifically with our contact at PDOT Will Stevens. Unfortunately PDOT
has been unresponsive even to repeated calls and emails! This has left
me a little dejected!

I am hoping we can form a larger group to push PDOT and Trimet. The
success of the NOT A BUS ROUTE largely came from the force of numbers
and being vocal. The Lincoln and 52nd issues haven't had quite the
vocal following we need.

I am planning on putting together a FACT sheet about Lincoln to
address some of the misconceptions people have, even some of our
neighbors. That may help give us a baseline to work from and convince
others of the issues.

Many other Mt Tabor residents have recently experienced what a lot of
cut-threw traffic feels like on a residential street and may be more
understanding of the issues Lincoln residents have faced for many
years. As soon as the Water Construction is completed, the cut-threw
traffic on Lincoln will certainly return and the safety of bicyclists,
pedestrians and kids will be at risk.

Thanks,
Mike

It helps when about a dozen residents show up at their office at 8am
and
occupy the lobby until someone comes and talk to them. We did that
on Tuesday two days after they first moved the route. About a year
ago!

Oh, and one neighbor would go out and stand in front of the buses
and argue with the drivers.  We don't recommend that.
