I also remember a sinkhole being fixed on 52nd right near Hawthorne 2 or 3 years ago.  So the sewer line under 52nd is basically a sieve of perforated pipe from Hawthorne to Lincoln.

According to Jon Joseph, the re-route onto 50th "will be in effect until the street becomes passable again, a determination that will be made by the City of Portland."

We need to remind the city of how bad the sewer is under 52nd so that they don't make any hasty decisions about it being passable again.  As soon as they replace the entire sewer line under 52nd between Hawthorne and Lincoln, then they can go ahead and reclassify it as "passable".

Does anyone know where the meeting tonight is being held?

The sinkhole should be an additional reminder of why this route is wrong for this street.  You should all know that there are other 'sewer breaks' under SE 52nd Avenue.  I know this because my next door neighbor (I live at the other end of SE 52nd from this sinkhole) had one of those videos done of the sewer line in front of this house and saw multiple breaks.  He brought this to the City's Attention;  no work has been done on the sewer line that runs under SE 52nd Ave following that test.

After last night's meeting, we now know that we will not be seeing a bus return to 52nd!  Yay!

Hi All

At our meeting last night with Trimet and the City officials, Trimet agreed to hold an open forum in our neighborhood to discuss their plans for the temporary rerouting of the bus lines.  They indicated they would try to have it as soon as they could make the arrangements next week. They will get a meeting place close to us and invite everyone that is interested in attending.  Since the meeting went late, all of our group did not get to talk about this but for now this seems like a better solution than having our small group set up a separate meeting to try to relay the issues that these officials discussed with us.  If this doesn't satisfy everyones need for information or actions, I would guess our neighborhood could plan another community meeting sometime after that.

Thanks
Marc Anderson

Thank you Marc for this update to everyone.  I would also add that the next meeting which EVERYONE is encouraged to attend to get some of the latest information from TriMet and BWW is the Mt. Tabor Neighborhood Association Meeting this Wedsnesday, Sept. 19th @ 7PM at the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church on Belmont and SE 55th.   TriMet will brief everyone on their progress and upcoming communication opportunities for Mt. Tabor residents affected by the construction and traffic impact.

You must have stayed up late last night working on that flyer we found on Mark's car.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the update (not to mention the time spent by yourself and
the others who participated in last night's meeting).
