I recently finished reading The China Study. While it could be about half as long and can be a little evangelical, the book discusses the effect of diet and nutrition on cancer and overall health by citing several rigorous studies, one of which is The China Study.

Basically, research shows that plant-based diets are shown to prevent cancer from developing. Meat protein has been shown to promote cancer cell growth.

The most interesting parts of the book are the explanations of how many common diet myths evolved. It is a great supplement to books like Fast Food Nation, Food Politics, etc. It is quite scary to learn about how much propaganda there is about food out there.

Lifehacker has done the work for me:

The two myths that really boil my blood are these two:
  1. Fat is bad for you. (First link, Myth 3)
  2. We need dairy to get adequate amounts of calcium for strong bones. (First link, Myth 4)

If you like, I can elaborate, but I think Lifehacker does a pretty good job addressing the main points.
