So we have Geezers and the Big Heist..... Geezers in Space.....
Washed-up Geezer Superheroes Save the Planet..... Washed-up Geezer
Superheroes in Space Save the Planet.... Geezers Stay at Dreadful
Indian Hotel but Learn Deep Lessons about Life....

And now I guess it is Geezers Back in Their Natural Habitat. And on the Road.

And I thought those mid-life crisis movies were bad. Leave it to
Hollywood to come up with a whole new genre to haunt my declining
years.

John Steinbeck is rotating at high speed in his grave.... What hath
"Travels with Charlie" wrought?

     You forgot:

Geezer has late life crisis (About Schmidt: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/About_Schmidt)
Geezer must deal with loved one succumbing to Alzheimer's (Away from Her: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Away_from_Her)
Geezer solves mystery (The Late Show: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Late_Show_(film))
Another geezer has late life crisis (Starting out in the Evening: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starting_Out_in_the_Evening)
Geezer befriends a robot (Robot & Frank: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_&_Frank)
Another geezer must deal with loved one succumbing to Alzheimer's   (Lovely, Still: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovely,_Still)
Yet another geezer has late life crisis (Love Comes Lately: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Comes_Lately)

Since I liked all of these, I guess I'm officially a geezer!

I left out geezer falls in love across two generations (Harold and Maude: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_and_Maude) because, well...

Some of these, like Harold & Maude (1971) and The Late Show (1977) were early forerunners of this new geezer genre.

Hmmmm.... I never thought of "Harold and Maude" as a geezer film.... I
thought of it more as a kind of cinematic Bildungsroman, or perhaps
just a cry for help....

I watched "The Late Show" as a teenager in Paris many decades back....
Never put that one in the geezer column, though I guess that kind of
works.... As do films like "The Shootist" and a few others I can think
of.

Is there a film where a 70 year old general (or colonel, or even gruff
sergeant) single-handedly takes on both the Germans and Japanese and
wins WWII? I guess "The Big Red One" has one character that sort of
approximates that.... And then there are those Douglas MacArthur
films, definitely Geezer at War stuff.

There is a thought though..... A "Mad Max Turned Geezer" film..... A
post-apocalyptic world film where a Geezer combining ancient wisdom
and heavy weaponry imposes harmony and order, sort of like a Violent
Confucius.....

Someone get me writer, I think I have enough there for a script pitch.

Actually, this sounds a lot like "The Book of Eli".... though Denzel
Washington is still a bit too spry to be called a Geezer.

Try "Ikimono no Kiroku" for a spry young-un actor doing a good job as a
geezer in a really depressing geezer film...

But with us baby boomers now mostly over 65, there'll be lots more of this
as Hollywood gets desperate for our money...

Another geezer movie that plays off an earlier genre is "Terminator Genisys". I think you commented on this film in an earlier thread, but it fits in as a geezer terminator example, albeit not an example of the best acting.
And, for a geezer overthrows a future dystopian realm, "The Giver" [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Giver_(film) ], not exemplary of Jeff Bridge's better work.
I guess to the extent that these cinematic properties are selected for development based on their putative geezer appeal, quality will not necessarily be the most significant parameter.

David's quite right - as we geezers of the Baby Boom generation wend our way through the population curve, supported by the SSA funding from the working youngster's salaries, it will behoove movie producers to produce more consumables for us to consume.  Kid's will be too busy being workaholics to make ends meet to watch many movies.

Yeah, I think this is part of the appeal of all the dinosaur rockers
out on the road.... and the tribute bands as well. I have only seen
one tribute band, a French Canadian band that performed Genesis' "The
Lamb Lies Down on Broadway".... A tour I missed at the time (not sure
if Genesis even made it to Seattle with that tour, but I did not
discover Genesis until after Peter Gabriel left the band). Anyway, my
brother said they were a great band, he had seen them at a venue in
Philadelphia, so I went to see the show at some place in downtown
Boston that usually features comedians like Janeane Garofalo and the
like, small place. I found the whole experience pretty surreal....
Lots of 60-something people in the audience, on their feet singing
along, thrusting their hands in the air.... Just kind of unsettling.
Not that it was bad, but it wasn't actually Genesis, and that alone
was reason for me to remain seated with my arms folded.

I cannot comment on the Stones, CSNY, The Who and various other
dinosaur bands.... the last rock concert I attended was Radiohead in
2003. Not counting the Genesis tribute band, that is. Some things are
best enjoyed while young.

I guess they haven't taken Grace Slick's advice:

''You either evolve or you don't,'' she says flatly. ''I don't like old people on a rock-and-roll stage. I think they look pathetic, me included. And the fact that I represent an era means I can't just go out there and do all new stuff. They would all say, 'Sing ''White Rabbit,'' ' and I'd say no? That's rude. But can you see me singing 'Feed your head' as a practicing nonalcoholic? It doesn't make sense now.''

But those guys aren't rockers; and they (well, at least Tom Rush) have been
writing and doing new material all along. But I hate Arlo: the first time I
heard Alice's Restaurant, that once was enough, thank you, but I knew that
the Boston area folk stations would play it about the same number of times
per day they did any new "hit", which meant that due to its length, it was
going to be the only tune on the radio for the next few months, and it was.
The radio became essentially useless for the period. (The DJ's must have
loved it, since its length meant they didn't have to do much work at all in
that period.) Multiply irritating, since there was a lot of good music
happening in 1967.

Yes. In John Sebastian's case, BAD material, though arguably no worse
than the treacly drek he pumped out as a young lad.

They still play on Thanksgiving.... Not my stuff.

I remember seeing the film "Alice's Restaurant" as a teenager...
Pretty melodramatic as I recall, though there is the funny scene at
the induction center where he spills his urine sample all over the
sergeant. The funniest and simultaneously saddest scene (something
that I recalled when I watched the pilot episode of "Entourage") was
where a young girl, perhaps 15 or so, wants to sleep with him, and her
rationale is that she slept with another guy who had put out a single,
but Arlo had managed to put out a full LP, so he was a big step up....

Groupies. A rarity in the translation industry, for better or worse.

GQI (geezer qua intern):

They showed this one on the boob tube the other day.

What was that song by Springsteen years back?...... "57 Channels and
Nothing On"?

Make that 1,057 channels.... and still nothing on.

     Yeah, I know the feeling.

I watched "The Late Show" (1977) last night, with Art Carney, a very young Lily Tomlin, and a few other stars [ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Late_Show_(film) ].
For those who never saw this one, it's a take on the private detective whose partner shows up at the door nearly dead from a gunshot, and shares just enough to launch a mystery.  The retired and played-out PI (Carney), the ditsy Hollywood type (Tomlin), the brainless babe on the make (Joanna Cassidy), the maybe/maybe not friend (Bill Macy).  They even worked in Carney's real-life limp.  Carney must track down his partner's killer (a la Sam Spade) dragging along the dits, avoiding the hot-to-trot mystery woman, and all along deciding if he can trust his so-called friend.
Very dated, but still enjoyable and a passable whodunit of that type, and definitely in the geezer genre.

"The Late Show" has a great concluding scene where Art Carney ends up
with a gun after being beaten into submission by the bad guys.... and
he uses it to good effect. Very entertaining film. Though I found Lily
Tomlin annoying. I think that was the point, she plays an annoying
character, and she succeeded in the role a bit too well for me.

Exactly, she was supposed to be annoying, all the more to play off Carney's ever dwindling patience.
There is one scene where she has just cooked up a scheme of how they would become a great crime-fighting team together, and Carney deflates her with a "no thanks".  She then attempts to save face by nattering on about how that's really for the best, working herself up the point of bursting into tears, and then gliding back down to standard nattering without missing a beat.
And poor Joanna Cassidy, given the most bimbo lines and flitting back and forth toward whichever man seemed about to gain the upper hand.

Do we include the new Blade Runner 2049 in the geezer genre?  It does feature a return appearance by Harrison Ford as an aging Rick Deckard, in all his geezerdom.

I have not seen "Blade Runner 2049" yet, don't ask me.... "Blade Geezer".

I did see "Terminator Genesys".... well, as much as I could stomach,
in 5 minute bites, over many weeks. Definitely a geezer film despite
all the beefcake.
