Science Hack video search engine

Science Hack is a specialized search engine for science-related videos, a great educational resource. It searches video sharing services and other sources for videos matching user queries. Each video is checked by scientists for accuracy and quality.

Use Science Hack as you do with general-purpose search engines like Google. Enter a query in the text box (e.g. hubble, sulfur hexafluoride, heat, etc.) and click "Search". Science Hack returns a list of matching videos. You can also browse videos by topic, click one of the buttons below "Popular Categories".

Heat equation

Prof. Christian Bär is a mathematician at the University of Potsdam, in Germany. He teaches a partial differential equations class and makes his lecture notes available for free download to his students. He asked us to use the image of our Heat Equation Mug on the lecture notes cover. We agreed, and the the cover looks pretty cool. In case you are curious download the lecture notes, Partielle Differentialgleichungen, a 1.5 MB PDF file in German. Thanks to Prof. Bär for his interest.

This Nostromics design shows the heat equation with red, dynamic HOT! text. This partial differential equation of physics models variations of temperature over time in all places of the universe, including a steaming cup of coffee or tea. See also the Heat Equation Large Mug in the Physics section of Nostromics Store.

Planetary images by Damian Peach

Unmanned space probes send back to Earth beautiful and detailed photos of the planets they visit, but these images often show only limited portions of these objects. The awesome full disc telescopic images by Damian Peach instead show planets as complete worlds.

Damian Peach is a a British amateur astronomer specializing in lunar and planetary imaging. He takes high quality photos of the planets and Moon by using excellent telescopes and equipment, traveling to the best locations for astronomical observations around the world, and doing advanced image processing. The site Damian Peach's Views of the Solar System collects his works. Be sure to check the Best of... section, with a selection of his best shots.
