Heya Everyone,
Welcome to NoSQL Summer Vancouver! The first meeting is scheduled to
be on Monday, June 14th at 6:00pm at the Pulse Energy offices. The
basic logistics info for meetings will be kept here:
http://groups.google.com/group/nosql-summer-vancouver/web/the-basics
It is great to see so much interest in NoSQL in Vancouver. We were
second only to San Francisco in registered interest until just a few
days ago.
Now it is time for the good stuff -- picking the paper to read for the
first meeting. I'll suggest we start with something foundational and
at the first meeting we can learn if there are specific areas of the
NoSQL landscape the group has a particular interest in exploring. As
the summer progresses we can dive into the more specific and difficult
papers.
I'd like to throw out two suggestions for starters and gauge interest:
The CAP Theorem --

BASE: An Acid Alternative --

If anyone has strong opinions about another paper to read please throw
in your suggestion and we'll come to a decision by Monday, June 7th so
everyone has a week to read the paper in advance. The only rule for
participating is to come prepared by having read the paper in advance
so we can have a lively and informed discussion based on the content
of the paper.
thanks,
chuck
