Hello.

Thank you for attending today's meetup.

Since both Neil and I are away for next date (25th Aug) and seems most
people won't be available on the date, we are thinking about taking a
break and have next meetup on 8th Sep.

The topic is "The beginning and End of the SQL era".

Here are the 2 suggested papers.

http://nosqlsummer.org/paper/codd-relational-model
http://nosqlsummer.org/paper/end-of-architectural-era

If you know any other good papers, please post here.

Cheers

... and for those who were maybe a bit mystified about the map-reduce joke, here it is:

... pretty much sums up that you can't always easily do ad-hoc queries on nosql systems (even though CouchDB is awesome, you can only query it using map-reduce).

Not sure anyone set up the meeting at skillsmatter website yet - maybe as they are all on holiday!

Found another interesting paper to read about ACID http://db.cs.yale.edu/determinism-vldb10.pdf

Hi people,

sorry for the lack of communication. I'm delighted to say that the event will be going ahead at Acunu's offices. It'll be from 7pm on the 8 September. For any who didn't come to their offices last time you can find details of where they are & how to get there here: www.acunu.com/contact

Cheers,

Neil
