I am very pleased to announce that NoSQL Summer is coming to Kraków.
For those of you who are not familiar with the concept, let me
describe it in a few words: NoSQL Summer is a reading club, where we
meet weekly or every two weeks during the summer to discuss previously
selected NoSQL papers. However, if there is enough interest, there is
nothing stopping us from continuing with the meetings later.
Before our first meeting we should pick a location and the paper we
are going to discuss. I took the liberty to reserve a venue for our
first meeting in klub Pauza on Floriańska 18/3 (http://pauza.pl/) on
28.07 at 19:00 (the last Wednesday of July). Lunar Logic Polska has
offered to sponsor beer for our meeting. If know a better location, or
know a company that would let us use their offices for the meetings
please don't hesitate to mention it on this mailing list.
Before our first meeting we should also pick a paper to discuss. I'm
proposing the Amazon Dynamo paper, but there's plenty to choose from
on the NoSQL Summer site: http://nosqlsummer.org/papers Be sure to
check that list out and voice your opinion here on the mailing list.
I think it will be best if we decide on the paper and location at
least two weeks before our first meeting, to give everyone interested
enough notice to make time in their calendars and read the paper.
If you are interested, please join this mailing list (which will be
our main channel of communication) and register on the NoSQL Summer
site:

Looking forward to meeting you all,
Adam Pohorecki
I think that if everybody who comes speaks Polish, then Polish makes
the most sense.

Discussing CAP theorem is a great idea. Maybe during the first meeting
we could have people volunteer to present various approaches to CAP,
the possible trade-offs and so on. Also, I imagine that CAP Theorem
will make recurring appearances as we discuss Dynamo, MapReduce,
Cassandra and other systems.
Cheers,
Adam
