Hello,
I just joined the group and wanted to introduce myself. I am the
founder of Swipely (
http://swipely.com/), a social application that
lets friends recommend recent purchases, discover new places and
products, save money and have more fun shopping. We turn purchases
into conversations. Before Swipely, I co-founded Tellme (acquired by
Microsoft in 2007) and before that was at Netscape where I was product
manager on the browser. Swipely is well funded and backed by Index,
Greylock, First Round Capital, and individuals like Chris Sacca, Ron
Conway and Keith Rabois, among others.
I joined this group because we are big users of Mongo (a document
database) here at Swipely. Some of our engineers will be presenting at
the upcoming Mongo conference in September. We use MySQL in addition
to Mongo - we try to use the right tool for the right job at the right
time. We're also looking at other technologies like graph databases
given some of the unique challenges we face with our applications.
Swipely is hiring. We're looking for folks who have experience and
interest in data-driven Web application development (we happen to use
Ruby on Rails and Java), big data, collective intelligence / ML, and
distributed/cloud computing. Our team is world-class. I figured
plugging into the NoSQL Google Group would be a good idea. If you have
any interest in our use of NoSQL technologies, drop me a line, I'd be
happy to talk with you more about what we do. Until then, I will enjoy
listening and learning from the community here.
All the best,
-angus
