Hi everyone! I work on MongoDB and I'll be stopping by for your next meeting (August 12).
MongoDB doesn't really have any white papers, but here are some blog posts and information on it:
MongoDB's scaling model is very close to the model described in the Yahoo PNUTs paper (
http://research.yahoo.com/pub/2304) and somewhat similar to the scaling system described by the Google BigTable paper (
http://labs.google.com/papers/bigtable.html). If you're not familiar with those papers (and don't feel like reading two fairly long pieces), I wrote a pretty accessible explanation of MongoDB's sharding on my blog:
http://www.snailinaturtleneck.com/blog/2010/03/30/sharding-with-the-fishes/ (shameless self-promotion).
Dan mentioned that the next meeting is on document-oriented databases, not just MongoDB. A lot of people find
http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/Comparing+Mongo+DB+and+Couch+DB useful when they're trying to figure out what the differences are.
Let me know if you guys are curious about anything in particular, there are tons of other interesting posts and articles out there.
Thanks! I look forward to seeing you all!
