As discussed, we're talking about two document databases, Mongo &
Couch, this Thursday night. Kristina Chodorow from 10gen will be
attending, giving us an insider's view of Mongo. I'm looking for a
CouchDB representative. thoughtbot will be buying dinner.
READING
-------
Since both Mongo & Couch support map/reduce operations, I've made the
main paper "Google Map/Reduce":

EXTRA CREDIT
------------
Kristina also recommended a couple of other papers...
http://nosqlsummer.org/paper/yahoo-pnuts
http://nosqlsummer.org/paper/google-bigtable
... a nice compare/contrast on Mongo & Couch:

... and a few other links of interest:

MAILING LISTS
-------------
Both have mailing lists for users:
Couch: send email to user-su...@couchdb.apache.org
Mongo: http://groups.google.com/group/mongodb-user
HOSTING
-------
Both have hosting companies dedicated to the technologies. The ones I
hear the most about, particularly as ways of getting up and running
quickly as you learn the technology, are:
Couch: https://cloudant.com/
Mongo: https://mongohq.com/
Couch & Mongo are both open source projects, though, and can be
deployed just about wherever you want.
See you Thursday, 7pm, at the NERD Center!
Dan
A few of us from Cloudant will be there to talk about CouchDB. I gave a talk at WindyCityDB on beginning CouchDB that people may find useful if they are new to the project. You can find the slides here: http://blog.cloudant.com/learning-to-relax. If anyone has any particular questions about CouchDB they'd like us to cover, please let me know and we'll do our best. See everyone at the NERD.
