Wow, I remember Freddie Weintraub and Barry! I think Barry lived on 25th St., as I recall. My brother Larry Tessel was great friends them! 'Used to play handball, basketball, etc. Larry & Freddie joined the marines together on the buddy system, but Freddie changed his mind..lol. Larry did become a marine. Does anyone have Freddie or Barry's e-mail, I would absolutely LOVE to write them and tell them on remember them. I was on Freddie shoulders when we walked down to the boardwalk for those fabulous fire words. I remember Barry had small kids at the time, as well. Larry & sister Reba went to Mark Twain. Just another short question - Does anyone remember a candy store on 33rd and Neptune called M & M diner or candy store?

And on a side note...
I am looking for photos of the old hardware store. Unfortunately we lost most of ours in a flood and would appreciate anyone who could help me replace those precious memories. Thanks!!!
I found a reference to Hubba Bubba from a old candy website. It was an expression used in WW II by GIs who voiced approval "hubba bubba". It became Wrigleys name for bubble gum in 1979 too late to use for the luncheonette. So when a GI went for lunch there he would say hubba bubba if the food was good, I presume.
the Huba had the best hamburgers ever. for years I have looked for the recipe. I remember the paper cups of Cole slaw diced and delicious. I remember Shirley the waitress that took care of us. we went for lunch almost every day when we went to Mark Twain Junior high school. the way it was then.... my mother would ask Shirley to give me lunch even if I didn't have money to pay. my mother told Shirley she would be in to pay her later. it was an easy and trusting time. anyway, my husband and I still talk about the Huba. what a special place.
Yes my name is Gino. I was 4 year old and my dad mom used to take me there they had the best mashed potatoes I remember the chef his name was John I believe I remember. He used to wear a white T-shirt I believe it was the year of 1965 66 by the way I am a gypsy so the questions I'm asking was the chef named John?
Does anyone remember me. I remember Saul Grabia, his cousin Marilyn and both of their parents. Les Frimerman, I also remember you and your twin brothers. I lived on 30th street, a couple of houses down from your apartment building. In 1960, I moved to the projects on Surf Ave.
