Hello Steve
We are open in the day for full members - that is people who have subscribed and who have come to a few sessions on Monday evenings and when other members are there - in other words a slow induction so that you can get to know us and we can get to know you.
We have an electronics bench with a couple of solder stations, an oscilloscope and various other things (you need someone a bit more expert than me to tell you). Also, if there is a need for specific piece of equipment, we can make a case to buy it, or raise the money through pledges - so long as it is something of general benefit
We also have an open work table, a lasercutter, a 3D printing and quiet workroom plus a 'dirty' workshop with metal and wood lathes, mills, pillar drills etc. and a rough space for assembly etc. We are also probably going to have a facility for welding.
There is no full-time caretaker/technician or anything like that, it is a member-run, volunteer driven space/club which generally works very well. Some people have areas of responsibility for equipment - we call them tsars - and they have the final word about for example the lasercutter
We also get to know people though our Slack team - if you have come across the app? It is intended for remote team working. It means we have access to each other's knowledge and can easily discuss things. Once we are familiar with you and vice versa, you can have a key and access at any time. You can also arrange with other members to meet there.
On another front, my husband has a 1959 Norton Dominator which he needs a bit of help with (it is running but cutting out occasionally), or more specifically a tap and die set plus someone who knows more about old bikes than he does. Is that you?
all best
Marion
