I’ve a favour to ask please on behalf of a friend (school teacher) who is struggling with 3d printing.

She’s a member of the Hackspace but struggles to get to any meetings as she has childcare duties.

Can anyone spot what she might be doing wrong please, or direct me to any helpful people or resources?

- The first couple of layers rarely stick to the plate, they get swirled around and just won't stay put. I've played around with lots of temperatures and layer heights. I keep the plate clean. I balance the four corners of the plate each time, but I just can't get it to stick most of the time.

- Secondly, when the first layers finally do stick, then the rest of the design is not coming out right either! There are gaps between layers and it doesn't have a smooth edge but jaggedy with lots of gaps in between.

It's a Sovol SV01 printer (not the pro version)

The kinds of controls I'm using are:

    - Printing temp 212

    - Initial temp 214

    - Build plate initial layer 60

    - Build plate temp50

    - Initial layer speed 5

    - Layer height 0.3mm

    - Line width 0.5mm

I've been taking designs from printables.com and using the Ultimaker Cura app to do the slicing.

Many thanks in advance for any advice

There's a near endless list of things it could be. Sometimes using hairspray or Prickstick on the plate helps with first layer, but if you are having issues with further layers it could be a calibration or settings issue, or maybe a slack belt.

Can you post any pictures of (failed) prints? That would help identify the problem.
