Hi,

It's World Scratch Day on Saturday 9th May and it would be ace to do an event to mark the occasion. So....the National Football Museum grand exhibition space (the hall when you first go in) will be available and set up ready for some Scratch football related workshops.

I've been toying around with a plan for the day (10am - 3pm) that will see 40 kids in the morning and 40 in the afternoon each doing 2 x 1hour workshops plus lunch & a wander round the museum. The first workshop will be a project to create a Scratch Football game (so will pretty much be a one off Code Club). The second workshop will be using both Scratch & SonicPi to recreate the Match of the Day theme.

Does anyone want to get involved? There are a couple of different things to do and if you are interested let me know so I can send more details
1) Come along on the day (either morning, afternoon or both) and help with the sessions
2) Join a group of people to get together and create a football related Scratch game for use on the day
3) Encourage your Code Club kids to make some Football related Scratch animations ahead of 9th May and upload them here https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/1094670 they'll then be displayed in the museum on the day and afterwards

A great thing about this is that the museum are buying a bank of laptops that they will keep at the museum for visitors and other events so the materials we create will be reused over & over and by people who might not have access to coding activities elsewhere.

Hi Liz,

9th May looks clear for us - it's my brother-in-law's birthday, but I doubt we'll be doing anything special for this one as the half century comes up next year. [very big grin]

So I'm sure we could help out - I can help out either with Scratch or the Pi's; and Carole is good at the more pastoral requirements. ;)

I have one question though: I know that the National Football Museum moved away from Preston, but I've no idea where it went to... I'm guessing somewhere in Manchester as you're using it?

(I'm not a football fan, and other than a cursor complaint about Bolton losing Burnden Park to wander up to Chorley, I pay it little attention. [hehe])

All the best,
Geoff

Brill thanks Geoff (& Carole). Worst case scenario I'm sure a day at the football museum would be the perfect 49th birthday treat!

NFM is indeed in Manchester - I'm too predictable but at least I'm venturing out of Salford for these things :) it's taken over the Urbis near Victoria Station/Printworks.

No football interest needed - I'm sure the kids will have enough for everyone :D

Thanks Liz - I remember the Urbis... it used to have a rather nice café at the bottom where we'd meet up before some OU tutorials - when tutorials were regular face to face events about a decade ago.

I've been trying to remember the Match of the Day theme tune, I think I've got it.. da dum dum da de de de de de da dum dum ..... [giggle]

Should be fun - we're going off for a holiday the day after so we'll be nicely chilled out... and I'll see if I can get my niece to drag her dad down for his birthday then. ;)

I'll look forward to seeing further details.

Kind regards,
Geoff

Hi Lisa, that's brilliant thanks. :D

Geoff - I'm updating the plan (using term loosely!) then I'll stick the link on this thread.
