Hi all

Anyone seen the TV adverts for this:

The search for me just seems to return a list of nearby banks (which I guess is the point!), rather than specific activities....

My testers found the "playground" - with annoying splash screen - initially cute, but not too interesting once you've changed a couple of values...

There is a link to CoderDojo / CodeClub from the playground

Any info gratefully received

Thanks

Steven

Hi Steven,

I've been told that they're using an in-house clone of 'something like' Scratch - but like you I have been unable to find out much about it: my friends who work at Barclays are reluctant to talk about it, saying it's nothing to do with their department, but I get the feeling they're not overly impressed with it.

When they had a Coder Dojo event at Radbroke Hall... they used Scratch.  I drew conclusions from that: rightly or wrongly. :)

TTFN,
Geoff

Thanks Geoff

I stand corrected on the search function, as it does actually list upcoming sessions at branches (in Manchester / Stockport anyway).  So - I've booked!

Here's the blurb:

We also run monthly 2-hour coding sessions for children aged 7 to 17 in selected branches. It’s a really fun way to learn the basics and develop digital skills for the future. Bring your children along with their laptops and our Digital Eagles will help them discover coding.
Use the form on the right to find your nearest session. They’re open to children aged 7 to 17. They’ll need to bring along a laptop, and an adult. Places are limited, so book ASAP.

When I used to pull pints for a living and people used to ask to cash a cheque we used to say this, "We've got a little arrangement with the banks. They won't sell beer and we don't cash cheques!" I say this to Barclays. Why don't they get on with being a bank and leave education to the professionals seeing as most of our pension contributions now have gone towards patching the financial mess they made in 2008. I would give the "Digital Eagles" a miss and start your own Code Club in your local Library. Oh you might not be able to do that as most local councils have shut them because of the cuts to pay for the mess the banks made n 2008. Mmm seems to be about of a theme here. We should only give the banks credit for their brilliant financial management in recent years and their record of being an honest and truthful bunch of people. PPI. LIBOR, just to mention a few things. Digital Eagles should Financial Vultures. Give them a very wide birth..
