Hello all!!!

I am circling back around (now that the event is closer) to get a boat count for folks who are planning on attending our joint event with Sail Sand Point on Lake Washington.

The final details are as follows:
  • Saturday August 15th
  • NWMA informational session and boat tours with SSP staff and board from noon to 1.  Host community rides from 1 - 4.
  • The event has been planned to allow plenty of time to get to and from during the day, but overnight moorage can be had by anchoring/stern tieing between the docks and the north break water, tying to the public dock (it is public and probably has various activities late into the night so best if you are on the boat) and possible space at NWMA member Eric Lindal's house a few hundred yards north of SSP (Eric please confirm).
To my knowledge, Dulcena, Ruf Duck and Ceratops have confirmed attendance but it would be great to get some more and varied multihulls to show off.

This event is part of the continuing NWMA effort to get more exposure to younger audiences... both community at large and Sail Sand Point folks in particular.  As a side note, we have been making some inroads into getting SSP staff involved in multi sailing activities (some Sloop Tavern races) and there seems to be interest from some CYC instructors as well.  We just need to make our communications better and start getting some youth in the boats.  If you are interested in this effort, please let me know.

Jeff, No boat anymore to bring but I might have moorage to offer a mile away.  Also I have another event that day which I will likely go to because I don't have a boat to bring to the party.  I'll show up if the other event gets over early.

No problem Eric.  Folks can reach out to you to confirm moorage if they need it.
Hopefully you can show for at least some of the event!.

Jeff, Yes anyone can contact me if they want to stay the night before, after or both.  I have a dingy to use if they end up on my mooring.

Hi Jeff,

I’m in, with Dulcinea.

If it ends at 4 I will head back to Shilshole - no need to moor overnight.

I can come with my little X-Cat, if that fits in with programming?

Absolutely Jonathan!  It will be good to see you (and your X-Cat).
Was it an X-Cat that did the R2AK a couple years ago?  An extremely durable Chinese guy who single handed it?

You are probably thinking of Mr. X on his Hobie Tandem Island trimaran.  Mojo return crew gave him a charger cord when he couldnt charge his phone for navigation due to his cord failing. :-)

If anyone else needs crew let me know (and how many you need).

This is shaping up to be a nice event.  As of now we have Dulcena, Ruf Duck, Ceratops, Freida Mae, Tim Claxton with his Weta (and possibly another or so) and Jonathan K in his X Cat.

I will send you a contact with SSP to coordinate crew.

Anybody else need crew for the event?

That would be great!

The folks who will be showing up for the first part of the event, will likely know how to sail, but will be new to multis.  The people who show up for the rest of the event will be complete newbies, and just curious about sailing in general… Some will be just there for the ride… and some will be there getting their disabled friends or family out.

It’s the second half that makes multi savvy crew critical.

One more week to go till the NWMA/SSP event August 15th!

A couple things:
  • The SSP folks are asking how many people they need to send to help folks through the locks.  I know that a lot of  you probably don't need help... but consider talking some SSP along for the ride.  I should get them a number by Thursday or so... so let me know if you need help or are willing to give a ride.
  • Ruf Duck split its main over the weekend but we will still be attending with the boat, main or not.
Anybody else interested in attending?  It sounds like we may have a couple more Wetas showing up...

Sadly (?) will not be able to participate, will be out sailing in the Gulf Islands.  I think it's a super idea to get some SSP folks onto the boats.  I'm intrigued by the Wetas - I have one also - they are SUCH fun, possibly the most fun possible on water (well for an old guy!)

I think it would be fun to try and get some of the more skilled folks (SSP or patrons) out racing with us at Shilshole.

Bill... let me know when you need crew and I will connect you with the SSP folks.  The group that has been going out with me are skilled but new to tris and particular boat layout.
Do not worry... you had not confirmed so you are not on our official event count currently.  Maybe next time!

It's the final countdown (for you fans of the band Europe... yeah Mich... I'm talkin about you...)

Event starts at noon Saturday and Ruf Duck is planning on being there a little before as there is always some coordination to do.
Typically we meet at a shoreside picnic bench to go over the plan and to get a vhf radio (if you do not already have one).  This radio is used by the shore team to coordinate landings and call boats back in for a new batch of folks as needed.
If you do not want to bring your boat you can still come by and help cat wrangle and soak up some SSP vibes.
Forecast seems to indicate the absence of rain.  Who brought that canopy last time?  We screwed it to the dock and it made a nice waiting/checkpoint for folks.

It sounds like Vince is leaving Shilshole around 8:30 for any folks who want to meet up there.  Ruf Duck will be meeting Vince at the Ballard Bridge as he swings by en route.

Can I get a final roll call of attendees?

Ceratops is still in!

We will take some SSP folks if there are any that want the ride through the locks - sorry for the late notice on this one. We can handle it without extra crew but we are happy to take any that want to join.

We plan to push off X dock and be heading out the South entrance about 830a to join Vince but don't wait for us craning and setup can be a bit unpredictable.

I'll be there as land support, though I could bring my runabout or dinghy for chase boat duty.  I brought the canopy last year and will this year if its rainy, with drill and screws.  It was Martyn's, so he is still with us in spirit!

I am looking forward to seeing you all there tomorrow... and did I mention that SSP will be grilling food for the event?  Libations can be had at Magnusson Cafe and Brewery (a few doors down from SSP).   No need to bring a boat... looks like there will be plenty there to go round!
