Hi All,

I am looking to purchase some new sails and my quote has several different sailcloth options. Does anyone know of a good resource I can use to learn about and compare between options?

Also, any recommendations for sailmakers and/or the best materials for our boat (old Dragonfly 25, primarily used for cruising around the sound) are appreciated. Looking to replace Main and Genoa.

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

Vince, when you chat with them, recommend my sail cloth as a nice bulletproof cruiser option.

Hydranet radial.  Thet best for this use but not cheap.

If switching from Dacron to a fancy laminate material, be aware that it will be stiffer, heavier, and harder to manage, but there will be a performance reward.

Sent awkwardly from my iPhone

If its North SAILS then you have to rely on them to explain the fabrics..
If your talking membrane products, they may use a "Sail Fabric" from a major Cloth manufacturer, in which case you could contact them or view the web site..
If Dacron same story...
Good Luck, the waters have gotten very murky!!

We just ordered a new main for Dragonfly (F40).  The membrane main still looked almost new, but was falling apart.

After much research and advice from local sailors, we bit the bullet and went for North 3di even thought it was a lot more expensive than the other options.

The big advantage is no stitching, the sail is built as one piece on a mold and cured like a boat hull.   Here in the tropics, the stitching typically fails first and the 3di sails greatly outlast the membrane and panel sails.  Maybe not as much of a longevity difference in the PNW?  Tim might have more insight.
