We've been looking into some of the offshore racing opportunities. One of them is the PNW Offshore from the Columbia to Port Angeles in June. Is anyone here interested in doing this race?

Additional info:
It turns out the PHRF-DW rating for the Pacific Cup is meaningless for multis. The org that issues it only does monos and BAMA does not have that rating.

There are some items in the SERs of these races that present complications for multis, but some of those may be addressed if the OAs decided to use the updated 2020 US Sailing SERs. I have an inquiry to the PNW Offshore OA now.

Beam and catwalk are not done, but significant progress has been made. The beam is glassed in place, and the catwalk is set in place. We're changing the way the tramps are mounted, new anchor rollers are being built. The list goes on, and the weather has not been helpful. I've been saying that we'd splash next month for three months now:)

I'll post the response from PNW Offshore when I get it, hopefully tomorrow. Here is the link to the race:  https://www.cycportland.org/pnwo-home

Yes, definitely!

Though:

* it conflicts with WA360 (June 7-?<=2 weeks) for anyone thinking
of doing that (which includes me..plans still uncertain). Or you finish
WA360 *really fast* and directly on to PNW Offshore!

* in my case, my regular race skipper is considering it, so he gets first dibs. ;-)

Requirements:
https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5bb50e247046803ce123d5ac/t/601b706d5cd3ca249e927172/1612410994058/2021+PNW+Offshore+SER+%28Final+2_3_21%29.pdf

Notably:

* 30% of crew must have Safety at Sea - I don't, and there is no way to get it beforehand, unfortunately

* Life raft

* EPIRB

* AIS

We’re going to be doing the WA360 in Felix (the cat) if anyone else is thinking about it too.

Definitely no plans to finish fast and turn around for the offshore ;)

Felix is a lot more suited to WA360 than Presto. Still, we have a chance of finishing in Port Angles before you make the turnaround in Olympia. There are guys who sailed into Budd Inlet 3 years ago and still haven't made it back:)

Felix might be the best ride for this race. You will sail two up? Three?

We’ll see, Rumor has it there might be a Seacart 30 entering, so we’ll need to be peddling fast in the Deep South ;)

We’ll be 2 up, the weight just makes much more sense, it was a bit of a knee jerk reaction to go three up in the 2nd R2AK. 2 person peddle drive and a new mast that Brandon is currently building.

He’s been working on mast building the last few years that I think could be REALLY interesting for the NWMH fleet in the near future, although he’d probably not be happy that I said that ;)

cheers

Really love the facebook pix and diagram with the shear web. I wonder if the shear web means that you could get away with some masthead kites and code zeros without the extra windage of mast head auxiliary shrouds.

Yep, thats pretty much the plan, its a really big section so its super stiff (but mostly cored so super light).. The code1/flat kite is about 1’ down from the masthead with no runners 🤞

Captain Dan Hill and Barnacle Bill will be doing WA360 in Tatiana as Team Free Narwhal. Curiously, *none* of Team Narwhal's old R2K crew were available for WA360. I don't take it personally. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the beatings, or the meager rations, or the constant stream of abuse from the captain.

Might have to stop watching the avy forecast and think about how to mount a pedal drive on the front beam of Aliikai! #wa360
Oo, oo, and a new carbon mast builder who's local? 👀🤔🤣

Bill,  the Tula meeting was recorded and is posted on the NWMA U Tube channel.

Everyone, please subscribe to our MWMA U Tube channel because if we get enough subscribers we get a cookie.  Well, not really a cookie but there is some advantage that we get, which I can't describe because its above my "expertise" level.

Minutes of the meeting will on our website after they have been proofread  http://www.nwmultihull.org/home.  To get to them scroll down to the end of the meeting announcement article.  The minutes are tacked on at the end.  January meeting with Francois Perus is also pending proofreading but it will eventually be up on the website.
