Hey all,

I know the what-fun-things-did-you-do-this-summer meeting isn’t until September but please throw me a lifeline.

I’m sitting over here in hellish Leavenworth (AQI 360) packing and running the BnB (which I thank for providing my boat fun). I won’t be released until the end of August, at which point I hope to sail into a lovely September.

Please send me a favor photo of anything water related: a crab, a headsail ripping along, a Jess sandwich, barnacles, sunsets, Quiggly shenanigans —I’m not picky, just bored (which is better than the fire threat my mom has in Manson or friends in Spokane, so not complaining).

I mentally promised to keep it to three paragraphs for Nige’s sake but he won’t read this far anyway ;). Sorry to hear about your main, Jeff.

A bit of history of NWMA sailing pic
Sanderling sailing in Sitka Alaska, we sold her a couple of years age and she is now in Baja somewhere.
Old members from way back like 1970s.
But we love keeping up on all the sailing you folks are doing.

On the Salish 100, I was rowing very close to shore just north of Gig Harbor. I had the privilege of watching this gray whale foraging along the shoreline!

Cheers,
Andy

Whenever I need a bit of relaxing and fresh air, I watch these 45 seconds. This is just west of Everett.
Yes the main is reefed despite the conditions, I always do when I’m solo (bolt rope in track is not conducive to any change in the main).

Since my boat is *still* not in the water, here are 2 pics from 20 years ago, flying the spinnaker on my F27 “Bear" off Cape Cod. I think it was the only time I used that sail.

First, the sailors, me and Rein Ciarfella:

Then the spinnaker:

"Trimaran separation anxiety." Thank you for the diagnosis-- the symptoms are terrible.

These photos and videos really help (including the PMs of my fam with some of you in past seasons). Especially appreciate the ASMR experience from Francois' video--that's my favorite sound. Jeff, I have a feeling that barnacle lives at your desk...

Mich,  I love those massive tris.  Here's one with a little less rock but, if you can get into the music, wonderfully captures the joy of sailing and fantastic variety of high speed boats and sailors.  I usually find it by utubegooling "everybody big trimaran video".  I like the way it captures the tremendous scale of those massive tris, sailing close to little boats, windsurfers and the breakwater.  Also, showing the high speed, flat water runs, gives you a feeling of the groove that the helmsmen are in, with 20' high, smooth, sustained, single-hull flights of those monsters.  As opposed to the fire hose, pitching, yawing and bashing of the ocean. What a gas to sail those.  And! there's little of that quarter-second, A.D.D, chopped scenes that bewilder old farts like me.

That's a great video.

That 'Brossard' Orma 60 at the beginning broke up in Dubai 20 year ago trying to set the round the "world" record.  The "world" in the case being the man made World Islands off the coast in Dubai.  I held the record for many years on my F28R before a Dragonfly 40C claimed it a couple years ago.

I've been on the huge "Orange 2" catamaran in the video.  It is now called Vitalia II and it has a central living pod.  The skipper says they struggle to fly a hull with all the cruising additions.

Mich, Lucky you got to go on Orange.  Marilyn and I spent a couple weeks touring Bretagne some years ago.  We feasted our eyes on, and got to walk right up to dozens of giant multis there.  Others, hidden away, moldering in obscure coves.  The club should buy one and moor it off my house, ha!
