To the group...

Sail Sandpoint has reached out to me asking if the NWMA would be willing to have another joint sail event with them.

The last event was a success and SSP was very appreciative.   Feedback I received on our end was that it would be nice to do an event that was more focused on their staff and folks who will eventually be in the market for a multihull.  I relayed this to the SSP Director and this is what he sent back.

Could you do an event where we do 1/2 public boat rides, and 1/2 demo for potential multihull buyers/board members/hobie people?

Is there a weekday afternoon evening in August 3-21st that would work?

August is a ways out but I though we could plumb the depths and see who might be interested.  From my point of view this could be a one time half and half as suggested or we could do two separate events, one for the public and one for SSP.  I am also wondering if a weekday is preferred (maybe because I work till 5 on weekdays...).

Let me know your thoughts and if the association should pursue this.

Can no longer bring my boat but I can offer one buoy moorage and one moorage at the dock if a few boats want to come the day or more before.  My neighbor has a buoy that I'm sure will make available again if we get a stampede.  Some of you know that I'm just a mile north of SSP

Perfect Eric!

If folks are mulling this over... or think they can participate please let me know.

Ceratops is interested as before - this is part of how we got new owner and member Robert Hall!! ;-)

And I failed to calibrate my instruments when I was on the lake last time, my STW is pretty far off and I'd like to get that fixed.

Unfortunately this lines up directly with family in town - I think we can't do it unless it falls on the 13th or after.

Weekdays are peachy for us though!! In general, with the minor exception of Weds Aug 19 I expect to be racing.

How about the non-public SSP event takes place at Shilshole?  It would be more representative of sailing in the Sound, assuming that's what most owners around here would do.  I'm not very interested in bringing my boat through the locks/bridges but would try to make time to take some folks out from Shilshole.  If we had enough boats and not too many people, we could even make it into a casual race (a chance for some more experienced folks to helm or actively crew) or sail the challenge course (maybe too long?), to give it a bit of an edge.  If we think that's an idea, we could actively seek a specific number (or range) of crew.

It could be a weekday early evening like the Ballard Cup races.

I can bring Dulcinea.  Any day is good for me.  Eric, I'd like to take you up on staying at the dock or mooring ball.

OK Duncan.  You are first in line.  If we proceed I'm sure the event will be discussed further on this group but do let me know a week or so ahead of time as I tend to forget.  FWIW SSP is probably a bit more protected than where I am but, as elsewhere in the region, the wind usually, but not always, dies down in the evening.  Anyone else want moorage?

And hopefully the wake boats (grrrr) and other traffic will die down after dark.

OK... looks like we have enough boats interested to pursue getting a date and details set.  I will report back with some options.

Bill Gibson... dunno... but I can ask. 🙂

OK... looks like the date choices are August 15th or 22nd.  Any preferences?

This will be at SSP because they want to use their boats for these events as well...so it will be a mix of us plus a bunch of dinghies milling around.
They have agreed to break the event down into two parts in order to get both the public (to meet their outreach goals) and their staff/board members (our outreach goals) out on our boats.

Once I find out which day gets the most participation from us I will get the date and specific times nailed down.

😀

Either the 15th or the 22nd is OK for me.  Full moon is the 26th, so the 22nd might be a better date if anyone is going to be sailing after dark.

Both work for Ceratops, but the 22nd is slightly better. :-D

OK... it looks like the best time is going to be August 15 (sorry Paul...).

When it gets closer to the event I will contact everyone again and work out more details like timing and moorage if needed.

Should be a fun event and it's a great way to support your club and sailing in general!

Ok. I’m in with Dulcinea.  If anyone wants to come along to and from Shilshole to handle lines through the locks, I’d be glad to have the help!

Duncan, put out the word a couple days ahead of your transit in August.  If I'm around and the schedule is clear I'll see if I can help.
