Hey y'all,

If anyone happens to be in or near Bellingham on June 28th or 29th, I could use at least one more set of hands to step the mast on Undaunted.

Right now I've got Scott Bushnell available either of those dates. If you know of anyone who lives locally and might be willing to run down to help us keep the mast on center while we crank it up, it'd be much appreciated. I've definitely grabbed random friendly folks to keep an eye out but, well, that's really hit and miss.

Plan is: boat ramp, unfold, motor to slip in same marina, step the mast.

Thanks,
Ginnie Jo

Darren is in, so the 28th it is. If anyone else is around and wants to heckle or lend a hand, feel free ;).

Actually, even hecklers can have a beer or seltzer when we’re done 😂. You all can marvel at how strong the current rips under my slip.

I am surprised that you don’t plan to raise the mast until the boat is in the water.
All Farrier/Corsair boats that I have encountered raise the mast while on the trailer, using the trailer winch.
It seems it would be more complicated to do it after launch, though I know it is possible and I have heard of it being done in certain circumstances. I must be missing something…

Richard--

I stepped my F27 mast on and off the trailer depending on the situation and it felt very manageable in both scenarios.

Jim Love did not build Undaunted with trailer stepping in mind, although some 31-33 models do so. It has no trailer winch nor bow guides. With the heavier and taller mast, I enjoy the stability of unfolding first, as well as the safety zone of the nets/floats. The downside would be if it were launched at a location with boat wake or waves, which isn't an issue for me.

You'll find a treasure trove of debates regarding this in the Fboat forum but it's more or less 'to each their own', the specifics of the location, the boat, and the preference of which variables the owner decides creates the greatest safety margins.

You're welcome to come watch a water stepping on the 28th!

No trailer winch explains it.

I would hope I’ll be busy with my own boat that day, but we’ll see…

Thanks,
