Hey everyone, there was a race or something yesterday (Saturday) in Puget Sound near Elliot Bay. We sailed through on our way back north to Everett and I saw yellow-hulled Ruf Duck and Vince's tri and maybe a third distant one, all beating to windward in a lot of wind and some waves. Did anyone see us? We were the 24 foot white plywood trimaran with a yellow hatch, trying to surf downwind while loaded up with everything you'd need to live onboard for 2 weeks and attend a wedding. Going through the cold front a little bit after that was interesting, did the race end up being upwind both ways?

That was the “down thesound” fleet.  It was a tough but exhilerating day.  Getting ready for the start heading north.  Could be upwind or no wind

Exhilarating was how I would describe our day also. We were going from S. Bainbridge near Blakely Rock to Everett. We surfed up to 10 kts, which for our older tri is the fastest I've gone while loaded for cruising. Then the front gave us sudden calms and 20 knot gusts, alternating from varying directions within seconds, until it settled in from the north and I had to put a reef in to stop luffing the main or sinking the leeward ama while sailing upwind the rest of the way. Current was helping us, but against the wind so it was bumpy.

I'll bet it was exciting!  Even on Lk Washington it was very windy (from the north) in the afternoon.

We had winds in the mid-20s most of the day. When the AWS hits 30,
it's time to reef!
Colin, if you had kid on board, then you get extra bonus points. My
kid is a bit older and can hand, reef, and steer.

Yes, 5 year old Theo was on board, not steering but happily along for the ride. Yours seems very capable and helpful. Theo only recently became better able to hold a course than the tiller tamer.
