Hello all, can you give your opinion on Blake Island’s future?  The parks department has 4 alternatives, ranging from removing the marina entirely to rebuilding the docks and adding new amenities like a hotel. Be sure your voice is heard! They have an Alternatives Survey which is open through April 30!  Also there is an online public comment form .

Also CYC at Shilshole is hosting a dinner potluck and presentation on Thursday April 9. Washington State Parks Planner Alexandra Sullivan will present on Blake Island State Park, the 4 alternatives, and collect public feedback from those in attendance. RSVP at https://cycseattle.theclubspot.com/event/mSurYlWAsX

BLAKE ISLAND WA PARKS' SURVEY

PROVIDE YOUR INPUT TO THE FUTURE OF BLAKE ISLAND

PRIOR TO APRIL 30, 206

Hello Sailor and the broader boating community!

The Club is reaching out for a call to action in support of Washington State Park and our beloved Blake Island State Park.  Our State Parks organization is working through a MASTER PLAN for Blake Island and requesting community input via online SURVEY, about different development options at Blake Island SP.  The survey closes for any comments on April 30, 2026.  The survey reviews four different redevelopment options for public response and comments as well as a forced ranking of the four options and overall  comment box at the completion of the survey.   The four options are titled: Back to Nature, Rustic Retreat, Concession and Recreation.  The scope of the different options varies greatly from keeping the experiences similar to its current state, how it was with the event lodge active, rental cabins and removal of the marina.  Yes, you heard that correctly, one option is to stop maintenance, stop dredging the marina and remove it permanently for only hand carry boats (i.e. kayaks) for island access.

Blake Island SP is a unique state park in Puget Sound and so close to Seattle and Shilshole.  The Club as been cruising in January to Blake for more then eight consecutive years and continues to require a wait list.  As boaters we are also able to visit this amazing state park on our own schedule with the marina being a major asset facilitating easy access and relaxed approach.

We ask that you review and complete the survey and provide Parks your feedback to the four options as well as provide your personal vision for Blake Island SP in the open comments sections of the survey.   We will keep an ear out for future WSP updates and outreach as the process progresses.  Thanks for your support of the Club and Blake Island.

Thanks Diane - I meant to post that here also.

I'd like to add in - the "back to nature" option lists a $30M price to _keep_ the marina (maintained), which is a lot of money! But it includes "shoreline restoration" and does not list a price for that. I feel it is a bit disingenuous to leave that out.

For reference, the shoreline restoration ongoing in Port Gamble which does NOT include dismantling an existing marina, best I can tell is at $27M..currently.

Here's a list of projects and running totals:

Thanks Diane.  I did the survey and plan to attend the CYC event Thursday.  Too bad we didn't learn of the this earlier as it would have been interesting to discuss it last night.  I suppose most of us would prioritize, like I did, the "Recreation" alternative which appears to leave the park as is for the most part, but provides for maintaining the marina, removing the now un or little used commercial buildings (I'm neutral on this) and adding a few more mooring buoys.
