We had our second Monday nite race last night.  Ruf Duck killed us.  Jeff was sailing with his brother and they had five (5) kids on  board.

Bill Gibson shadowed the race on ZAMA.  Good times.

So who runs the races.  Can just show up and shadow you guys like Zama.  Or register and pay on a per day basis?

Eric

Races are run by Sloop Tavern Yacht Club.  Its only $35 per 5 race series.   Best deal in town.

Just to be perfectly clear here, it was a blast but....Vince waited for us at the start, did not use his full quiver of sails, beat us downwind and got snarled up at the leeward mark... which allowed us to finish in front of him.

Still... it was a blast and a good way to hook some kids!  Hope to get them out there more often... still working on logistics vs bedtimes.  So far the best system is to have Julie pick them up at Shilshole and take the boat through the locks without them.  Otherwise they do not get in bed till 10...

I have a bud who has a house on the north west side of Penn Cove. He has been bugging me to sail up for a visit. Other than avoiding the cable areas, does anyone have any advice for anchoring? The charts are pretty light on information.

Thanks

I've anchored for years but can't say I'm an expert, however, don't most anchors have a spot opposite the fluke tip to tie a floating poly trip line on them?  I've never done this, and not really seen it done but it must really help to get an anchor unstuck.   Once I hooked an abandoned heavy chain anchor rode while chartering a 38' cat.  The cat's windlass barely hauled the whole mess to the surface and I used a halyard on the electric winch to lift the abandoned chain off my anchor.  I really wanted to salvage that bright galvanized abandoned chain rode but it was just too heavy  and I was already 2 hours into the exhausting ordeal with an increasingly impatient crew.

How about the call-before-you-dig number........just kidding.

I was more wondering about anchoring specifics to Penn Cove, not anchoring in general.  The chart says “Cable Area” on most of the center part of the cove.  I recall from my sailing classes that it is a no-no to drop a hook over these sections.  However, I just chatted with the guy at the Coupeville marina who said he has never seen anyone snag a cable in his 20+ years at the dock.  He even said that they used to “drag fish” (whatever that is).  I think we will be safe.

It was something you could try if you thought you were in an area where snags were possible and you happened to actually hook a cable.  I did anchor in Penn Cove, once years ago without a problem, now that I think of it.

Have fun
