Hey y’all,

As you may know, I’m moving to Bellingham this summer and had been patiently awaiting my mooring ball assignment (they’re still in repairs).

Instead and surprisingly, I just secured a slip at Squalicum Harbor Marina and will now be able to sail year round. After five years of living three hours from my boat I can’t believe I’ll be 2 miles from the dock. Pinch me. One of my girlfriends wants to buy me a t-shirt that says “I’d rather be servicing my winches” since tinkering at the dock was a luxury I never had with travel, family, and big adventures taking priority. Seriously though, my winches are wobbly and the cockpit is a chipped up mess right now.

Please PM me your sailor friends in the Bellingham area who might want a new friend to splice with or take a sunset cruise around the bay. I’m open to all sorts: baddie women (especially and of course), boatless boat lovers, and sailors with any quantity of hulls.

Undaunted is going to be right at the entrance to the marina for now so I imagine I’ll be getting some invites to race. Not sure I’ll have space for that this summer but do any of you have experience with the CYC Bellingham group? I’ve never been in a yacht club but the website makes it sound blue collar enough that I might fit in (chipped up cockpit, remember?).

Thanks,
Ginnie Jo
Undaunted F32AX

PS: I’ll still be using all that great mooring ball advice to up my game this summer ;)

Congrats, Ginnie Jo.  You are going to love being near your boat, at a dock, and messing in boats (said Ratty to Mole).

Excellent news, Ginnie Jo!

I (and ESI) will miss you and Undaunted at the boatyard.😉
We have been using Undaunted on the trailer for reference, for how my boat/trailer should be set up.
The latest problem is that my trailer is sub-optimal; the ama bunks are not far enough outboard, and it’s not immediately obvious how to fix it. We are going back and forth with Tuff Trailers about it.
This is adding to the delays for launching my boat. 😒

Best,
Richard Bryan

I'm sorry to hear this, Richard. One thing after another!

One note on my trailer: it's suggested that the rollers at the forward end be replaced with bunks. For long trips, the pressure from these rollers can damage the hull. Mine weren't an issue so I think Jim Love had this in mind when he had the trailer put together for Undaunted. You can find additional info on this issue in the Fboat forum.

My sister & her husband live a mile away from Squalicum, and they keep their Tartan 30 there. I go up there all the time, including last weekend. Would love to meet in person some time & join you for a sail on Bham bay!,

Great meeting you Ginnie, Scott and Darren. The mast raising was a success. Undaunted is a wonderful boat with a capable Skipper!

Nice meeting you too, what did your boys take away from seeing and scrambling on the bigger boat? Are they going to be advocating for you to succumb to 3 foot-itis?

Thank you so much, guys! We were such an efficient crew. I think Undaunted went from parking lot to her slip with spars in place in an hour 45!

Bob brought the “no hurries, no worries” vibes which is always appreciated when I’ve got that behemoth of a mast halfway to the sky. I made him sit on the mast probably longer than necessary but he used it as an opportunity to observe and improve our system before go-time. Darren double checked my knots and guarded that forestay pin with his life (I maybe triple checked). Scott is like having a walking reference library on the boat. He defended the hulls from a swarm of lasers and was called upon to answer all the unanswerable questions like, “does this sleeve go above or below the forestay?” Let’s just say my notes will be improved…again.

Our only “mishap” was a stray pram that speared my masthead windex arm before stepping. They had to be removed like a kebab by their instructor.

PS: As you know, I’ll be over on the westside permanently beginning in the last summer. Reach out if you need help launching or retrieving your boat. I look forward to giving back to this generous group of fine sailors and friends.
