Dear all,
I write to invite you to join the Western Washington University guitar studio this Friday night for our annual Guitars of Western concert at 7:30pm in the performing arts center concert hall! It's open to all at no cost. I believe the concert will also be livestreamed here.
The program (attached) features twelve brand-new arrangements for the WWU Guitar Ensemble, encompassing everything from medieval dances to bluegrass to video game music. The centerpiece of the evening is the suite of student arrangements exploring the music of The Legend of Zelda: each player in the ensemble has selected a track from the franchise’s nearly 40-year history, transcribed the original source material by ear, and collaborated with me and their peers to reimagine it for our ensemble of mandolin, steel string guitars, electric guitars, classical guitars, and electric bass. The result is an incredibly moving testament both to the special, nostalgic place of this music in all our hearts and to the guitar students’ investment in supporting and sharpening one another creatively.
Each member of the guitar studio will also contribute a solo piece to the program—expect to hear more original arrangements, new American music, neglected gems, and fresh takes on a few war horses of the guitar repertoire.
Hope you can join us!
Eli Schille-Hudson
