Dear All,

I’m writing to make you aware of our upcoming 2025 Guitars of Western concert—THIS Friday, May 16 at 7:30pm in the concert hall of the WWU Performing Arts Center! Admission is free.

The students of the WWU Guitar Area are set to present a fantastic program of solo works spanning three centuries, especially highlighting gems of the guitar’s rich history in the Americas.

Continuing that theme (and a guitar area tradition), the second half of Friday’s program premieres this year’s crop of brand new arrangements for our Guitar Ensemble. The students and I have all contributed an arrangement to make up a Ragtime Suite—our group’s take on the solo piano works of the great American composer Scott Joplin. The result is a unique, extremely fun (and quite challenging!) recasting of this music in the colors of mandolin, steel-string, electric, bass, and classical guitars. It’s also a time capsule of this present moment in the WWU guitar studio, and a testament to the students’ imagination, hard work, and commitment to bringing each other’s ideas to life.

The full program is attached.

We hope you can join us!

Best wishes,

Eli Schille-Hudson

Excellent - I have not seen anything from CFPA, whose emails I get - will they advertise the program?

I’d add to that that it’s always a joy to experience the innovation in presentation that you and your students bring to these concerts Eli.

Congratulations to all of the soloists opening the first half of the show. What a wonderful performing experience that the students as performers can and will build on!

Organizing the second half of the show on arrangements from everyone on stage, and centered around a theme, allowed us to be a part of the process, as the arrangements are realized in this diverse  ensemble setting. I look forward to next year’s concert!

David
