Such an interseting evening! I'm in Central America at the moment. I'd love to hear/see it. Is it possible to connect a good quality microphone to the Apple tablet for Zoom?
Jacek.

Jacek,
I don’t have a ‘good microphone’ and have not investigated what it takes.  I am open to suggestions or someone more knowledgeable.

I can bring a Yeti mic (connects with USB)—not amazing, but not nothing!

Best wishes,
Eli

OK. I will connect anyway; I got excited about the evening.
Yes I use a Yeti mic with a MacBook Air and it gives me a decent fidelity of the sound. The newer generation of Yeti microphones are surprisingly good. Any laptop with USB connection would work with Yeti. Tablets are limited.

We should chip in for Tim to get something better then a tablet :)

Lol. Writing from Yosemite….( had to say that).

I have that usb-c to usb and a mic, we can work this out for next month.
And these communications should be to the host directly( Eli:), so as to spare the entire group…. Yes I’m guilty too.

Thanks Eli for your efforts hosting, and i wish you all the wonderful meeting it’s sounds like it will be!

Hi Tim,

I heard from Zoom folks that the sound was not good last night. I asked Ron whether he got you the mic and he said he did.
He said that when he asked not to have the mic at face level ( or some such) you placed it on or near the floor.
I’m not sure, recalling last month the same issue came up but we found a place midway up maybe on a bench? Anyway we will meet at Ron’s next month sans zoom, so it will be two months before we are live w mic again. Maybe we can address it then.
Thanks again for your help with this.
David

David,
I had the mic on a piano bench at first but Ron was insistent that it blocked the view so it was on the floor.  I thought that would be the outcome.  I’m looking into some way  to rig up a better configuration.  Yes, we do have some time.
Thanks,
Tim

I wonder about the angle of the mic. The top was tipped towards the player last night and sometimes mics like that have the directionality coming from the face of the mic. What is the make and model of that mic and we could easily lookup what the pattern is. I know lots of guitar recordings are miced from lower down without problems. If it could work being lower down I think it is a lot less visually intrusive.  my 2c. ;)
