Veteran Vancouver band Musiki Parea will take us on a musical journey across the regions of northern Greece,
from Epirus to Macedonia to Thrace.
They'll play the music of each of these three distinctive regions and through a series of songs, they'll show the unique characteristics. And they’ll talk about the music and the dance traditions. Anyone who wants to dance while they’re playing is welcome to.
For 25 years, Musiki Parea has been exploring and playing music from Greece and neighbouring regions, at festivals, in restaurants and for special events. While none of the members of the band are Greek, all share a love of the music, the culture and the people of Greece.
The current members of Musiki Parea are Kate Gerson (clarinet, gaida, kaval), Erika Gerson (vocals, percussion, baglama), Laura Blumenthal (vocals, santouri, percussion), Wendy Cutler (bass ukelele), Sanaz Nakhjavani (kanun), and Mark Hamilton (guitar, laouto, bouzouki).
