The Serbian Cultural Center of Seattle presents The Pocket Watch, written and directed by Mira Martinovic, and produced by Bjanka Marceta, Rada Vojnovic and Silvija Jakovljevic, alongside 42 actors and organizers! This is wholly a Serbian community project, and if you have not had a chance to join us in this effort, we welcome you in the future!
The Pocket Watch is partly based on Dragan Lazarevic’s award winning, compelling and biographical graphic novel of the same name. If you care for history, this graphic novel is a must-read. It will not only affect you deeply, but will also stay with you long after.
The play is set around three time periods, braided together by characters and their kinship. The Pocket Watch takes place around and during World War I, in the year 1933, as well as today. It tells the story of Radomir and Julka Lazarevic, a couple bound by love, mutual devotion and loyalty to their family, homeland and future. It is a tale of deep friendship and sacrifice, linked by the stories of those who remained and those who did not after the Great War. It is a story of the people who found strength to survive in a war-torn country.
