*********************************
01/01/2010  Sorry – no dancing on January 1st.

***************************************************************
01/08/10  Steve will teach some fun dances starting at 8:00.  The recorded music party starts at 8:30.  You are welcome to make requests.  Dancing is from 8:30 to 11:30.  The suggested donation is $5 per night when there is no band, and no charge for lessons.   If you can pay more please help by doing so.   If you want more information about the bands, please check the web site www.SeattleBalkanDancers.org for links on the calendar and on the Friends page.

***************************************************************
01/15/10 Social dancing from 8:30 to 11:30.  There will be plenty of time for your requests.  No formal teaching, however, teaching seems to happen when someone wants to learn!  Don't be bashful, we all had to start by learning and by trying.
***************************************************************

01/22/10, 01/29/10, and 02/05/10 Jana will teach a 3 week session before the Kef party with emphasis on dances they will play.  Her lessons are well attended - for good reason!  She is so good at breaking down the steps into easy "chunks", and she makes learning fun.  The lessons will be held from 7:30-8:30 before our usual recorded music dances, and each 3 week session will be $35, including your usual weekly $5 donation for hall rental.  There will be social dancing after her classes, from 8:30 to 11:30.  We want to raise some extra funds to bring in Kef, so please invite your friends to come for Jana's excellent lessons, and pay a little extra at the door if you can.

***************************************************************
Feb. 12th - The fabulous brass band, Kef will be here from Eugene, OR - by popular demand !  You heard them at Folklife last summer and you wanted more.  Save the date because you’ll want to dance to them all night for the bargain price of $10!  Please check them out at www.SeattleBalkanDancers.org where you'll find links for the flyer and to their music.  Please plan ahead for the refreshments you'd like to bring to share.

***************************************************************
02/19/10, 02/26/10 and 03/05/10 Jana will teach a 3 week session before the Balkan Cabaret party with emphasis on dances they will play.  Her lessons are well attended - for good reason!  These will be held from 7:30-8:30 before our usual recorded music dances, and each 3 week session will be $35.

***************************************************************

March 12th - The world famous Balkan Cabaret will be playing at the Russian Center for your dancing pleasure!  It’s such a joy when they come to play for us.  This band is world famous for their musicianship and their global spirit.  Don’t miss it!  I can hardly wait - they are so fabulous!  We're holding the price to $10, but we're happy to accept more to keep the band coming back next time.

***************************************************************
We primarily dance Balkan line dances from countries such as Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, and Albania. An occasional dance from other countries may be played as well. The early part of the evening has mostly easy and basic dances that everyone can participate in regardless of prior experience.  You don't need a partner and there are plenty of friendly people to help you get started.  We have a library of over 2000 recordings available for dancing and you are encouraged to request your favorites.  To make that easier for you, they are indexed in a book by the request board.

Thank you for reading all of this.
