Baihaqi relates,

"When it is the first night of the month of Ramadan, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, gazes to them and the one to whom Allah looks, He does not punish him, ever."

How do we receive Allah's gaze on the first night of Ramadan?

We do this by striving to purify our hearts, being in a state of brokenness in front of Allah and having a sincere desire to receive it.  Anyone who sincerely seeks to receive it will not be disappointed.  Scholars have interpreted this to mean that we bear no malice or ill-will in our hearts towards another.  We cleanse our hearts by pardoning others.

Join us again for a blessed and uplifting evening of soulful reflection as we continue our series based on the Kitab al-Hikam (Book of Wisdom) of Shaykh Ibn ‘Ata’Allah al-Sakandari with commentary by visiting scholar, Shaykh Walead Mosaad.

About the Series
The Hikm (as it's commonly referred to) is written by the same author of the text, Taj al-Arus, that we had been covering in previous halaqas. The Hikm of Ibn Ata'Allah is the inspiring explanation of the soul’s journey through this life, as determined through the Qur’an and Sunna. Along with his treatises and intimate discourses, the substantive feature of the work is the author’s 264 spiritual aphorisms (hikam)—concise, comprehensive and sublime sayings on self-purification (tazkiya) and guidelines to help strengthen the relationship between humans and their Lord. Shaykh Walead Mosaad will offer relevant commentary on the text and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss further in order to benefit on a deeper level.
