confirming autumn equinox social

Hello all,

 

The autumn equinox is a week today!  I have received tentative responses from the following who plan to attend the autumn equinox outdoor social:

Aiden, Harry, Sally, are you able to come?

 

On this basis I decided to book with Brockwell Wood because it’s easier for me to give precise travel directions for people to arrive and easily rendezvous at different times.  Steph very kindly allowed us access to the wood on a private basis (I’m making a token donation and helping to promote their organic beef – to non vegetarians!) so if the weather turns foul we’ve lost nothing.  But looking at the long range forecast I’m optimistic that even if it’s a bit chilly we should dodge the storms due tomorrow and early in the week.

 

If anyone else from the list wants to join us around a fire to rekindle group connections- you are all very welcome: I realise that I’ve left a number of ‘regulars’ off the personalised address list, notably for those who have told me they can’t come.  Gwen, we’ll be thinking of you on your due date and will toast you with hot chocolate! Of course, if you feel OK to come along, it’s not far from where you live and it’s not far from civilization!

 

The basic plan:

 

Arrive at Brockwell Wood and locate the identified site (should be number 5 on the site map which I’ll send in advance, or laminated copies available under gazebo at farm house) any time from c.2.30/3pm

Gather wood and build a fire; (build a latrine too!); gather late blackberries; decorate site; put up makeshift table/chairs (bring whatever you can)

Bring a dish of food either already cooked or not needing much cooking + cups/plates/drinks/cutlery

Aim to eat c.6-7pm or so and hang out around the fire until after dark

 

There is water and wood at the site and we have access to a shovel and saw and various metal grilles to make a cooking trivet for the fire. But it would be really useful if someone could bring a campfire kettle.  I will bring several tarpaulins and a gazebo (if showers are likely) but if anyone has a windbreak this would make an screen to pit latrine!

 

I’ve attached detailed travel directions by car and by bus (ideally, print these off to guide you on the day).

I have space for 1 person, possibly 2 (if I don’t bring much) heading from the city.  Anyone else have passenger spaces to offer?

Hi Helen,

 

Yes I’m still planning on coming although may be a bit later then this as have several other things on that day! I can’t dig anyway so no use for pit latrine. I can bring a flat bottomed metal kettle (not huge) if that’s any use, and will look round for other useful stuff. Unfortunately most of my this-type-of-stuff is in Weardale and I won’t be able to get up there again this week.

 

My plan at the moment is to bring some broad bean soup/stew and bread and cheese. Can also bring booze.

 

I’ll be coming from Highfield and can go through Greenside if anyone (Gwen/Gwenno) needs a lift from that area.

 

Thanks for organising this- let’s hope the weather’s OK.
