Hello,

Welcome everyone who we met on Saturdayat the North Sydney Markets and
have signed up to this e-bulletin. Thanks very much to our
enthusiastic volunteers on the day!

We had a great response from market goers. On Saturday over 50 people
supported the petition campaign to Kevin Rudd (the petition is
available at www.nswrightsatwork.com.au). The markets attracted a lot
of people. The atmosphere and the great weather drew people in. Apart
from the variety of stalls there, great music and events such as a
photography exhibition were put on by the North Sydney Community
Centre. We'll be there next month on Saturday the 8th September.
Contact us if you'd like to volunteer, or come and visit our stall
(facing Miller St).

This Tuesday, 14th August, we'll be meeting again at the Neutral Bay
Community Centre, 5.45pm for 6pm. We have a number of large Your
Rights at Work Placards available for you to display at your home or
business, so if you are keen for some, let us know prior.

Come along to our meeting to help us plan our next events...the
Federal Election is not that far away now! We are thinking of doing
activities in the local area which involve the Fair Employer program
(www.fairemployers.com.au ), local Churches and more Candidate's
forums. All of these events will involve the Petition campaign. Do you
have any suggestions? Please contact us.

Last week I was part of the South Coast Your Rights at Work Bus Tour,
which was a fantastic experience. We held street stalls, public
meetings, delegates conferences, went door knocking, and visited a
number of workplaces such as the Bega Hospital and High School,
speaking with people about the campaign and hearing their stories.
The response was great and people were really supportive of the
campaign. Over the week, over 800 people in the South Coast supported
the petition campaign. We were able to convey local stories to people
and these were also communicated in the local media. We also helped
encourage people to enrol to vote. The next Bus Tour is up North of
NSW. Please visit www.nswrightsatwork.com.au for more info.

Also, you may have heard about the dispute at Cochlear (hearing
implants company), which is located in Lane Cove (in Joe Hockey's
electorate). To find out more about this visit www.amwu.asn.au and
click on 'Listen Up Cochlear'.

If you have been caught up in the Facebook phenomenon, please join our
group - found by searching for 'The North Sydney Your Rights at Work
Group'.

Thanks very much and keep in touch, and please keep writing letters to
local media!

Julia Armitt
